Devil's Backbone is exposed and narrow. The Devil's Backbone is a narrow ridge with big drop-offs on both sides.
In winter this is mountaineering, not hiking. From late fall through spring and even early summer, Baldy can hold ice and needs mountaineering judgment.

The forest has taken this step to enhance public awareness that wildfire probability increases as temperatures rise and vegetation dries out.
